|Special Registration Deadline Extended
INS has announced changes in the deadline for special registration of Groups 3 and 4. Nonimmigrant aliens from Pakistan and Saudi Arabia (Group 3) who were originally required to register by February 21, 2003 must not go to a designated INS office to be photographed, fingerprinted and interviewed under oath by March 21, 2003. Generally, male nationals or citizens of Pakistan or Saudi Arabia born on or before January 13, 1987 must register if they were inspected by the INS and last admitted to the U.S. as nonimmigrant on or before September 30, 2002, did not have an asylum application pending on December 18, 2002 and will be in the U.S. at least until February 21, 2003.
Those in Group 4 were originally required to register by March 28, 2003. Now, Group 4 must register by April 25, 2003. This Group includes nonimmigrant male nationals or citizens of Bangladesh, Egypt, Indonesia, Jordan and Kuwait born on or before February 24, 1987, who were inspected by the INS and last admitted to the U.S. as nonimmigrant on or before September 30, 2002, did not have an asylum application pending on January 16, 2003 and will be in the U.S. at least until March 28, 2003.
Anyone who required to register fails to do so may be considered to be out of status and deportable. If you have any questions regarding the special registration process, please contact an attorney.
