New Legal Orientation Program Announced

The Executive Office for Immigration Review (EOIR) announced a Legal Orientation Program to provide information about the immigration legal procedure for detained aliens in removal proceedings.  According to the EOIR, private nonprofit agencies will provide detained individuals, prior to their first immigration hearing, with information about court procedures and forms of relief available to them.

The program is operational at three detention facilities located in Port Isabel, Texas, Eloy, Arizona, and Buffalo (Batavia), New York.  Two additional sites (Lancaster, California, and Seattle, Washington) are expected to be operational within the next two months.  A sixth site has yet to be selected.  EOIR expects more than 23,000 detainees to benefit from the program in the first year.
