| Employer Penalized for Violations Involving H1B Workers A wage and hour dispute involving Universal Software Solutions, Inc.'s H1B workers was resolved recently, with the company agreeing to payment of a penalty and back wages. The U.S. Department of Labor alleged that Universal failed to pay required wages to certain H1B employee, and had accepted payment from a worker of the fee required to file an H1B petition. The Labor Department fined Universal $1,500 in civil monetary penalties and calculated back wages due to 4 H1B employees at over $52,000. Universal filed an exception to the monetary penalties, and ultimately agreed to pay $50.00 for accepting payment for the filing of an H1B petition, in addition to back wages due to 4 H1B employees. The Labor Department withdrew penalties for the first alleged violation. |
