Premium Processing Service Still Unavailable to Religious (R-1) Workers

The United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) recently announced that it will continue to suspend premium processing service for R-1 Religious Worker Petitions until at least January 7, 2009.  According to the USCIS, the complexities in adjudicating R-1 petitions render the expedited 15-day processing unreasonable.  Adjudication of R-1 petitions, the USCIS notes, could include inspections, evaluations, verifications and compliance reviews for religious organizations.  As such, those seeking R-1 status must continue to plan petition filings well in advance.
