| Period of Stay for TN Professionals Extended The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has announced that the maximum period of time a Trade-NAFTA (TN) Professional may remain in the United States is now three years. Prior to this change, Canadian and Mexican TN professional workers were required to seek readmission or request an extension of stay in one year increments. The TN classification is available to Canadian and Mexican nationals who wish to come to the U.S. to provide services in one of a list of acceptable professional occupations. According to the USCIS, this change was made to ease the administrative burdens and costs to TN workers. Given that TN workers were previously required to either make an annual trip to a port of entry or submit an extension of stay requests (sometimes after being in TN status for only six months), this change is a welcome relief. |
