| Passport Card Added As “List A” Document for I-9 Verification The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has announced that the new U.S. Passport Card may be used in verifying employment eligibility and completing the Form I-9. The Passport Card, which the U.S. Department of State has recently begun producing, is a wallet-sized document for land and sea travel between the United States and Mexico, Canada, the Caribbean, and Bermuda. Although this new card is not valid for international travel by air, it is considered a valid passport attesting to the bearer’s U.S. citizenship and identity. As such, the Passport Card may be accepted as a “List A” document (those documents that prove both identity and employment authorization) for purposes of I-9 verification. Employers participating in the E-Verify program may also accept this document. |
